DESIGN & MANUFACTURE
McNair Engineering is well placed to provide innovative solutions to client problems. Our fully accredited and experienced design staff will manage your project from concept, design and realization.

HURRICANE LOCKDOWN SYSTEMS For THE GULF OF MEXICO
Our Client had a problem on a spar rig in the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Ike toppled the drilling derrick and the new derrick required an independent structural lockdown system. A design was required in 2 weeks for equipment to restrain 9000 kips (4090 Tonnes) and was produced based on our proven pin grippers but much, much bigger.
As this was considered a key structural component, Stress Engineering in Houston monitored the project on behalf of the US coastguard including extensive weld testing at McNair Premises, and initial production. A FAT in Houston was completed at KOS Ingleside and after installation at the yard onshore and offshore snagging’s were carried out by McNair personnel.

BOP HANG OFF PINS
A BOP handling upgrade in a semisubmersible required larger capacity “BOP Hang Off Pins”.
The requirement was for a set of four 120 tonnes capacity BOP hang-off pins with remote actuation.
McNair Engineering provided a turnkey solution including hydraulic supply and installation aids.
Design, supply and installation in Belfast of these structural components in 8 weeks was challenge but McNair Engineering managed to achieve delivery including DNV compliance.

COMBINED POWER PACK AND CONTROL PANEL
Space is always at a premium on offshore production platforms and installing replacement hydraulic supply components can be time consuming.
By carefully specifying components to match flow and pressure requirements combined with modern pressure compensated proportional control valves, McNair Engineering managed to replace a large remote hydraulic power unit and local control panel with a compact combined unit which would fit in the available space near the drill floor.

FAIRING HANDLING SYSTEM
Our Client required a handling system for assembly of fairing sections on subsea risers in order to minimize vortex-induced vibration in deep water.
The manufactured solution enabled operators extract the Fairing’s from their custom containers, wrap them round the riser and assemble the components. The turnkey project ( which was completed within 5 months )included design, manufacture, offsite training and installation onboard in The Netherlands. All in 5 Months.

BUMPER BAR MOUNTS For GHANA
Loading of large containers into confined areas close to the flare stack on a FPSO offshore was a challenge which required bumper bar base assemblies. The design had to minimise deck loadings on impact hence a resilient base mount was incorporated.
20 such assemblies were required and delivered within 6 weeks.
Manufacture required full traceability during fabrication of these structural components. Testing included 75 tonne pull tests on the units and progressive testing of the Elastomer rings to complement the rubber manufacturer’s data.
This international job was for a London-based oil company with engineering supervised from Houston with final delivery to Ghana. Delivery was completed on time.

PIN GRIPPERS for Jack up rig Cantilever
Reverse engineering of existing pin grippers gave our Client cost-effective answer to a major problem. Wear and deformation in the pin location holes were causing operational problems.
McNair Engineering machined the location holes oversize on site in Egypt. Pin grippers with oversize pins were designed, manufactured in Glasgow and installed in Egypt by McNair personnel. .
In house design and manufacture combined with site machining capability provided a quick and cost-effective remedy for the Client.
